UM delegation visits Italian universities to expand inter-university collaboration

MACAU, October 28 - A delegation from the University of Macau (UM) visited several leading universities in Italy, including the University of Bologna, the University of Florence, the Polytechnic University of Milan, and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. During the visit, the delegation held in-depth discussions on academic and research collaboration, faculty and student exchange, and interdisciplinary collaboration, further strengthening UM’s partnership with Italian institutions.

Led by Wang Chunming, director of the UM Global Affairs Office, the delegation first visited the University of Bologna, where they were received by Giovanni Molari, rector of the university. The delegation also had a meeting with Raffaella Campaner, vice rector of the university, and academic leaders from three faculties. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on academic collaboration in fields such as information science, architecture and design, and medical education. They also reached a preliminary consensus on promoting student exchange programmes and facilitating reciprocal visits by research staff.

At the University of Florence, UM renewed its Agreement of Cultural and Scientific Cooperation with the university. The renewed agreement provides a stronger framework for continued collaboration in education, research, and international initiatives, further deepening the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.

During a visit to the Polytechnic University of Milan, the delegation met with Marco Imperadori, rector’s delegate for international relationships with Far East Asia. Both sides introduced their respective academic strengths and internationalisation strategies, and held in-depth discussions on academic collaboration in design and engineering. They agreed to establish a university-level student exchange programme and move forward with a memorandum of understanding.

At the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, the delegation met with the university’s international relations team. Building on the success of the existing two-way student exchange programme, the two sides explored opportunities to expand the scope of exchanges and enhance support measures. The delegation also met with student representatives who will participate in exchange programmes at UM in spring 2027, introducing them to the university’s learning environment and campus life in preparation for their studies in Macao.

In addition, the UM delegation met with more than 50 local students interested in learning about postgraduate study opportunities at UM. The delegation introduced the university’s academic strengths, postgraduate programmes, international learning environment, and the latest developments of its Cooperation Zone campus.

Nevia Dolcini, associate professor in the UM Faculty of Arts and Humanities, also participated in part of the visit.
